Justin Bieber recalled having an “emotional breakdown” after his marriage to Hailey Bieber didn’t fix all of his problems. Justin Bieber also talked about how his relationship with Hailey inspired him to develop his latest track, “Honest.”
“It’s a journey. I mean, when I first got married, I hit a little bit of an emotional breakdown because I thought marriage would fix all my problems, and it didn’t,” Justin Bieber told Ebro Darden for Apple Music 1.
“It was a reflection of, like, ‘You’re a bit of a hypocrite, man. You want your wife to do something that you’re not doing.’ And … it’s sometimes hard to look in the mirror and realize, ‘Man, maybe you’re not the person you necessarily thought you were.’ And, you know that’s just the result of trauma and life circumstances,” he added.
The 28-year-old singer said Hailey remains on top of his priority list and how “love” is the foundation of his life.
“I think relationships for anybody are hard to navigate, you know, it’s a constant dance, if you will. And yeah, I think being inspired by my relationship has produced some great music. I said it before, but love is like the foundation of life, and love is the foundation of my music in general. So it’s important to me I’m singing about kind of what I’m living first. I was talking to Hailey this morning. It’s like, she’s my priority before anything else. So just being on the same page with her is like the main thing,” Bieber told SiriusXM’s Pandora NOW channel.
Bieber further revealed how his faith in God helped him work through the issues that helped keep his marriage happy and healthy.
“Obviously, I’ve been so just very public about my faith journey and how my relationship with Jesus has helped me to, you know, not be so hard on myself. Just the idea that I’m forgiven and that, you know, he’s walking me through this journey, and day by day, I get to, you know, get better and better and not be too hard on myself,” Bieber said to Ebro Darden.
