Over the years, K-pop music videos have undergone a remarkable transformation. It has evolved into an art form that has captured the hearts of fans worldwide. In fact, K-pop music videos have been the lifeblood of many K-pop groups, catapulting them to fame and success.

Also, K-pop music videos are among the most viewed videos on YouTube. Moreover, BTS and BLACKPINK videos surpass 1 billion views each. The reason for their success lies in the fact that these music videos do an exceptional job. Viewers are entertained as the videos visualise the lyrical theme. 

So, what makes a K-pop music video one of the best of all time? A few factors went into making our list. First and foremost, the song itself had to be exceptional. Even the most visually stunning music video would not make the cut if the song wasn’t great. Additionally, we looked at how the music video elevated K-pop to another level through its concept, design, choreography, and directing.  

We focused on music videos that went beyond the standard performance video. While many older K-pop videos were great in their time, they could not compare with what is being produced today and, therefore, did not make our list.

What makes the “Gangnam Style” video so special is its ability to transcend language and cultural barriers. Even though most viewers outside of Korea likely had no idea what Gangnam was, the video’s catchy tune and colorful visuals captured the attention of the world, making it a cultural phenomenon that continues to be enjoyed to this day. 

2.Guerilla – A.T.E.E.Z 

ATTEEZ’s single “Guerrilla,” released in 2022, is a powerful anthem that celebrates rebellion and defies oppression. Its music video brilliantly captures this message. Moreover, it is directed by Moon Seokho and Seong Wonmo, the cinematic video follows a captivating storyline in a dystopian world. The band members portray the rebel force in a society where conformity and perfection are imposed upon the youth.  

What sets “Guerrilla” apart is its intricate storyline, which extends beyond the music video. Also, it is further explored in two trailers released before the launch of their EP. The World EP.1: Movement. In addition, the trailers are filled with Easter eggs, symbolism, and references to the band’s past music videos. Iconic works of art, such as Eugène Delacroix’s 1830 painting, Liberty Leading The People. 

3.Kill This Love – BLACKPINK 

“Kill This Love” is a music video by the k- pop girl band Blackpink. Released in 2019, the video features the group’s signature blend of fierce choreography, powerful vocals, and stunning visuals. The music video begins with a dramatic intro, as the members of Blackpink are seen in a desert setting, dressed in bold, edgy outfits. Also, the opening shot immediately sets the tone for the video, hinting at the powerful and intense performance to come. 

Throughout the video, the members of Blackpink showcase their dynamic dance skills, performing intricate and synchronized routines. Moreover, the choreography is bold and fierce, emphasizing the group’s strong and confident stage presence. Also, the members of Blackpink pose with a massive tank, dressed in military-inspired outfits is the most memorable moment.. This sequence perfectly captures the group’s fierce and powerful image. They stand tall, confident, and ready to take on the world. 

4. Black Swan – BTS 

The “Black Swan” music video by BTS is a visually stunning and thought-provoking masterpiece. It explores the theme of artistic expression and the fear of losing passion for one’s craft. Also, the video was released on March 4, 2020, and directed by Yong Seok Choi of Lumpens. It features the members of BTS in a haunting and emotional performance.

“Blood Sweat and Tears” is a music video by the popular South Korean boy band BTS. Released in 2016, the video opens with a shot of a marble statue. It sets the tone for the artistic and ethereal visuals that follow. Also, the members of BTS are shown in various settings. Including a grand library, an ornate room with a chandelier, and a room filled with art pieces. Each member is dressed in stunning, high-fashion outfits that reflect the opulence of their surroundings. 

One of the most memorable scenes in the video features member Jungkook. Also, he is seen falling into a pool of water, symbolizing the idea of letting go and surrendering to the unknown. This scene is visually stunning and adds deeper meaning to the song’s themes of temptation and sacrifice. 

7.Feel My Rhythm – Red Velvet 

“Feel My Rhythm” is a K-Pop music video by the girl group Red Velvet. The video, released in 2021, features the group’s signature blend of catchy pop music, vibrant visuals, and dynamic dance routines. Also, the music video opens with a shot of the members of Red Velvet walking confidently through a colorful, geometric cityscape. 

This opening sequence sets the tone for the fun and energetic performance to come. Moreover, the group proceeds to showcase their impressive dance skills and powerful vocals. This sequence emphasizes the group’s strong and confident image, highlighting their status as powerful and talented performers. 

8.Yet to Come – BTS 

How does one bid farewell to a decade of unparalleled success? Do you reflect on every milestone and reminisce with your audience? Or do you look ahead with unwavering optimism and promise them that the best is yet to come? BTS, being the masters of their craft, decided to do all three. And also they did it with elegance, emotion, and symbolism. Set in a desert against a backdrop of clear blue skies, the music video for “Yet to Come.” It was BTS’s grand finale before announcing their individual projects and military service. What made this visual masterpiece so significant was the incorporation of props from their past music videos. 

However, the choice to film in a desert – is a symbol of obstacles and how the group overcame theirs. The sand represents the passage of time adding a poetic dimension to “Yet to Come.” The video is a nostalgic journey through BTS’ career, from “Just One Day” to “No More Dream.” These sentimental references are sure to tug at the heartstrings of ARMYs, leaving them with a bittersweet smile. Also, the music video ends with a poignant reference to their debut music video, “No More Dream.” The members are shown seated in the same yellow (signifying hope) school bus.  

9.Love Shot – EXO 

“Love Shot” is a seductive and stylish K – Pop music video by the immensely popular boy band EXO. Released in December 2018, the song features a smooth blend of R&B and trap beats with sultry lyrics about the power of love. Moreover, the accompanying music video is a visual treat that showcases the band’s captivating performances and signature choreography. Set in a dimly lit bar, the music video features EXO members dressed in sleek suits. They are surrounded by a group of stunning women. 

The music video’s highlight is undoubtedly the choreography, which is choreographed by renowned choreographer and director Tony Testa. The intricate and synchronized dance moves are executed with precision and flair, showcasing the band’s talent and artistry. Also, the standout moment is the impressive gun-slinging move, which has become a signature move associated with the song. 

10.Dynamite – BTS 

“Dynamite” is a 2020 single by BTS, which became a global hit and made history by becoming the first Korean-language song to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The music video for “Dynamite” is also, a colorful and energetic tribute to the disco era of the 1970s, complete with retro outfits, funky dance moves, and vibrant visuals. Directed by Yong Seok Choi and produced by the South Korean company Big Hit Labels, the “Dynamite” music video begins with BTS members in different locations, including a record store, a diner, and a telephone booth.

11.Fear – SEVENTEEN 

The popular K-Pop music video by the band SEVENTEEN, “Fear,” has left fans stunned with its dark and edgy visuals. Also, it tells a powerful story about the toxic side of love, highlighting how negative emotions can fester and ultimately destroy relationships. The video is expertly crafted to keep viewers on the edge of their seats, employing various camera angles and filters to create a sense of unease and disorientation.  

The use of color is also masterful, creating a visually stunning and impactful piece of art.  

With its haunting themes and arresting visuals, “Fear” is undoubtedly one of the most striking and powerful K-pop music videos to date. It showcases Seventeen’s artistic and creative abilities, cementing their status as a top-tier group in the K-pop industry.
