The 1985 song ‘Running Up That Hill’ by Kate Bush is breaking records 37 years after its release. ‘Running Up That Hill,’ featured in Netflix’s webseries Stranger Things, became the most-streamed song in June and is among the top 5 tracks on Billboard Global 200.
Media reports claim the song has helped British singer Kate Bush earn $2.3 million and counting in royalties.
“We can’t speak to who actually earns money, as that involves taking a deeper dive into individual contracts/publishing/master ownership, and we don’t track that with our data,” a Luminate spokesperson said.
Luminate is an independent company that provides data for Billboard’s charts.
The song has become a trending sound on TikTok and Instagram, with users creating over two million videos to it. Kate Bush has also made several Guinness World Records.

An overwhelmed Kate Bush is pleasantly surprised by the love and affection the song has received.
“The whole world has gone mad,” Bush told BBC.
“I’m overwhelmed by the scale of affection and support the song is receiving, and it’s all happening really fast as if it’s being driven along by a kind of elemental force. I have to admit I feel really moved by it all. Thank you so very much for making the song a No. 1 in such an unexpected way,” she wrote in a note.
