Chart-topping artist Jason Derulo is now entangled in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by aspiring musician Emaza Gibson. The case, which emerged on Thursday, alleges that Derulo, known for hits like “Glad U Came,” signed Gibson to a record deal with the purported intention of engaging in sexual relations with her.
Emaza Gibson, a 25-year-old aspiring artist, has expressed her emotional distress, stating, “I have anxiety; I’m traumatized.” She described her experiences as “inhumane work situations” and voiced a sense of being back to square one with nothing to show for it.
Allegations of Unwanted Advances
According to the lawsuit Page Six has obtained, Gibson claimed that Jason Derulo made unwanted sexual advances towards her during their collaboration. The suit outlines that Derulo reached out to Gibson in 2021, extending an invitation to work together. Under the terms of Gibson’s contract, she was required to release a single featuring Derulo, produce a mixtape within four months, and complete an album within six months.
Gibson alleges that while working with Derulo, he repeatedly invited her to join him at a members-only lounge for drinks and dinner. Despite her efforts to maintain a professional relationship, she claimed that Derulo persisted with these invitations.
In September 2021, Gibson asserts that she agreed to go for a drink with Derulo. She alleges that she was provided with “inappropriately large amounts of alcohol,” as stated in the lawsuit. Gibson expressed her discomfort, saying, “I told him that I wasn’t a drinker … so it’s like, you know, you’re not listening to that the first time I tell you, and you’re still pushing on me. It’s, like, pressure at this point.”
Incident of Jason Derulo’s Aggressive Behavior and Additional Legal Claims
The lawsuit details an incident in November 2021 where Derulo introduced Gibson to a woman named Rosa, reportedly in an intimate relationship with the artist. During this introduction, Gibson claims Derulo also showcased her music. Gibson described feeling “thrown off” by Rosa, to which Derulo allegedly reacted with aggression, shouting, and loud outbursts.
In addition to the sexual harassment allegations, Emaza Gibson is suing Jason Derulo for intimidation, illegal retaliatory termination, and breach of contract, as reported by Page Six.
This lawsuit adds to the recent controversies involving public figures in the music industry, highlighting the importance of addressing issues related to harassment and professional conduct within the entertainment business.
