In a recent development, the iconic British music duo Pet Shop Boys, comprised of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, have voiced their displeasure over Drake’s use of their song without permission.
The dispute revolves around ‘All the Parties,’ a track featured on Drake’s latest studio album, ‘For All The Dogs.’ The song appears to sample Pet Shop Boys’ 1984 hit ‘West End Girls,’ yet the duo has not received credit or obtained permission for this use.
Pet Shop Boys took to the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, to express their discontent, stating, “Surprising to hear @Drake singing the chorus of ‘West End Girls’ in the track ‘All the Parties’ on his new album. No credit given or permission requested.”
In Drake’s song, he sings the lines, “It’s 6, our town a dead-end world/ East End boys and West End girls, yeah,” which closely mirrors the lyrics and melody of Pet Shop Boys’ pop classic, where they sang, “In a West End town, a dead end world/ The East End boys and West End girls.”
As of now, neither the representatives of Pet Shop Boys nor Drake have commented on the perceived similarity and unauthorized use.
Drake’s Philanthropic Acts Shine at Concerts
Amidst the controversy, Drake displayed his philanthropic side during one of his concerts in Canada. The rapper paused his performance to offer financial support to a fan who had disclosed her struggle with multiple sclerosis (MS).
“I’m a pay whatever it takes to get you to get the best help in the world, I promise you that,” Drake assured the woman.
This act of generosity follows another recent gesture by Drake during one of his ‘It’s All a Blur’ tour stops in Miami. At the event, he noticed a signboard held by a concertgoer whose ex-girlfriend had been meant to attend the show with him before their breakup. The sign read, “I spent all my savings buying tickets for me and my ex, but Honestly, Nevermind, it’s really Her Loss,” cleverly referencing two of Drake’s album titles.
Moved by the fan’s situation, Drake expressed sympathy, saying, “So, she ain’t come with you tonight? She ain’t come with you tonight – to the Drake show? What the f**k is wrong with her?” He then proceeded to give the fan a gift of $50,000, encouraging him to “flex on her tonight.” According to reports, the crowd responded enthusiastically to Drake’s generous gesture.
Drake’s actions have not only made headlines in the music industry but also demonstrated his commitment to positively impacting the lives of his fans.
