Billie Eilish reflects on ‘Bad Guy’ and early career struggles

Multi-award-winning singer Billie Eilish recently shared her candid thoughts on her chart-topping hit, ‘Bad Guy,’ labeling it the “stupidest song in the world.” The 21-year-old artist, known for her unique and often edgy approach to music, didn’t hold back during her appearance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

Despite ‘Bad Guy’s’ immense commercial success since its release in 2019, Billie Eilish expressed her view of the track as “dumb” but acknowledged its popularity. The song playfully taunts someone for being a “bad guy” while suggesting Billie’s resilience.

“Objectively, ‘Bad Guy’ is like the stupidest song in the world,” Billie explained during her appearance. “But it’s really good.”

She went on to describe the song as “goofy” and emphasized the humor within it. “It’s just like you have to understand … You have to have humor in it. Like, that song is… I’m trolling. That song is supposed to be goofy, but it’s just funny because it’s dumb,” she added.

In addition to discussing her music, Billie Eilish opened up about the early years of her career, revealing that she experienced depression and struggled to enjoy her initial success in the music industry. She began her journey in the spotlight at a very young age, with her debut album released when she was just 17.

“The first few years of my career, I was very young and very depressed and didn’t even know if I wanted anything that I had,” Billie shared.

However, Billie’s outlook on her career has evolved significantly. She attributed this transformation to behind-the-scenes changes, including a less strenuous touring schedule and a larger team to support her.

“I was kind of in this zone of, like, I don’t want to be here. Stupid little kid, and I’ve made changes,” she explained. “Then we got a less brutal touring schedule, and we got more people, and we didn’t have to do it all ourselves anymore. And it just became really, really enjoyable.”

Billie Eilish’s candid remarks offer a glimpse into her artistic process, evolution, and the unique perspective she brings to the music world.
