Trace Austin, the iconic Otis Williams of the Temptations’ grandson, has released a new song titled “My Story,” which he wrote and was produced by Byron Dorris, a.k.a. Scotty.
After finally feeling motivated to relate his experience as a long-time victim of bullying, Trace was driven to compose “My Story.” Trace experienced bullying, several wounds, homeschooling, and a failing educational system.
“I want bullied kids to have a voice. I want a change to happen; I want to inspire others and have them inspire more people to Speak Up!” Trace said.
In October, Trace established a non-profit organisation, Together All Protected. The organisation will spread awareness about bullying in the neighbourhood and offer resources like mental health services, parent support groups, suicide prevention, self-defense classes, creative arts programmes for musicians, and alternative programmes (schools) for youth from underrepresented groups, the LGBT community, and foster children.
Trace Austin, born in Canary Wharf, London, left the country early and travelled to South America, Greece, Paris, France, and Spain. When Trace was five years old, his family moved to the US; today, he divides his time between California and London. Due to his exposure to various cultures and nations, Trace has compassion for everyone and thinks he can relate to everyone.
The family that Trace grew up in was musical. His grandfather is a founding member of the storied Motown group The Temptations. His uncle, Benjamin Wright, Jr., is a well-known musician, producer, arranger, and songwriter who has collaborated with Michael and Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Destiny’s Child, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, and other notable artists.
