The English-Australian singer-songwriter, actress and activist Olivia Newton-John hails from Cambridge, United Kingdom. She has sold close to 100 million records globally during her career spanning more than five decades. As to Olivia Newton John’s age, she is 73 years old. A soothing voice and charming personality made Newton-John a success in many genres, including pop and country. Having won a couple of gold and platinum records, she had become one of America’s leading vocalists by the late 1970s. Early Life

The singer was born in Cambridge, England, in the year 1948 to a father who was an MI5 officer and a Welsh immigrant; while her mother was the daughter of atomic physicist Max Born, winner of the Nobel Prize in physics. When she was 6, her family shifted to Melbourne, Australia.

After graduating from Christ Church Grammar School, she went on to attend University High School. As a teenager, Newton-John performed on television and radio and won several talent contests. Her three classmates and she formed a short-lived girl band, Sol Four, when she was 14.

Career

The legendary singer began her music career in the mid-60s after being the winner at a talent competition on the television show Sing, Sing, Sing. She then travelled to England and began performing in London pubs. Decca Records signed her for a recording contract and she put out her debut single in 1966, “Till You Say You’ll Be Mine.”
When she released her debut solo album, If Not For You, in 1971, Olivia Newton-John became an instant sensation. She reached #6 on the UK Singles Chart with the title track and became one of her 27 US Top 40 hits that were to come in the future. Five of Olivia Newton John’s songs reached the top of the Hot 100 charts in the US, including “I Honestly Love You” (1974), “Have You Never Been Mellow” (1975), “You’re the One That I Want” (1978), and “Magic” (1980).

A passion for country music led Newton-John to write soft-rock ballads that proved popular on country-and-western music radio stations. Female Vocalist of the Year Award was given to her by the Country Music Association in 1974. The Grammy Awards and countless gold records Olivia Newton-John earned in the 1970s and 1980s cemented her reputation as one of America’s greatest female vocalists. She released her album Physical, which was a major hit in 1981. The album’s title track became the best-selling single of the decade.

Newton-John’s acting career is noteworthy. Grease (1978), Two of a Kind (1983), A Mom for Christmas (1990) and A Christmas Romance (1994) are among her movie, television, and documentary credits.
Awards and Recognitions
There have been numerous awards and accolades awarded to Olivia Newton-John during her career. This includes four Grammy Awards, 10 American Music Awards, and nine Billboard Awards. Queen Elizabeth II appointed her an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1979. She was awarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1981.

Personal Life

The actress Olivia Newton-John has been married twice; she first married actor Matt Lattanzi in 1984, with whom she had a child, Chloe Rose Lattazi. Following their divorce in 1995, she married John Easterling, the founder of Amazon Herb Company in 2008.

Her cancer diagnosis in 1992 prompted her to undergo gruelling treatment which included a partial mastectomy and chemotherapy. For several years in the following years, she remained cancer-free, but her cancer returned in 2017.

Apart from being a long-time animal rights and environmental activist, this famous Australian pop music artist, Olivia Newton-John is also a breast cancer awareness advocate and promotes health awareness.
