Alka Yagnik, the Bollywood playback singer, recently became the most streamed global artist on YouTube’s Music Charts & Insights list in 2022. Alka Yagnik toppled the likes of BTS, Blackpink, and Taylor Swift with 15.3 billion streams to set Guinness World Record.
In a recent radio interview, Alka revealed that she was unaware of BTS until her daughter explained the global popularity of the K-pop band.
“I asked Syesha, ‘Who is BTS?'”
“She was rolling on the phone. She said, ‘Mom, you are just too much,'” Alka Yagnik revealed.
The singer said her daughter Syesha first introduced her to the K-Pop group. Seven people make up the fanbase of the South Korean boyband: Jung Kook, Jimin, V, SUGA, Jin, J-Hope, and RM.
Alka also thanked her fans for their support.
“They’re happy, love me, like me, and have accepted me with open arms for so many years. For me, that’s a big thing,” Alka said.
After Bollywood paparazzo Viral Bhayani shared the news on Instagram, it sparked a wave of negative comments directed towards Alka. The BTS ARMY criticized her for being unfamiliar with the popular K-pop group.
