The British rock band was formed in 1965 under the direction of the lead singer Syd Barrett, who left three years later. Singer and bassist Roger Waters left the band in 1985.

Patrick McKenna, the band’s representative, has reportedly shortlisted four potential buyers, including Warner Music Group Corp., Sony Music Entertainment and BMG.

The Dark Side Of The Moon remains the rock band’s best-selling album, with an estimated 45 million copies sold worldwide.

Deemed as “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant,” the album was picked for conservation in the US National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress.

The Dark Side Of The Moon, charted in the USA for 962 weeks in total, comprises singles such as Time, The Great Gig in the Sky, and Brain Damage.

The rock band’s other two best-selling albums were also released in the 1970s, with Wish You Were Here selling more than 20 million copies and The Wall selling over 30 million copies.
