In a historic and highly anticipated turn of events, the Glastonbury Festival is set to break with tradition by featuring an all-star lineup headlined by Madonna, Dua Lipa, and Coldplay in June 2024. For the first time in the festival’s history, two female artists will take the top slots, marking a significant shift away from its male-dominated past.
Dua Lipa is slated to grace the Pyramid Stage on the festival’s opening night, Friday, offering her fans an electrifying performance. Coldplay will follow on Saturday, ensuring a vibrant and memorable show. Finally, Madonna will close the event on Sunday, adding her legendary touch to the Glastonbury stage. Madonna’s performance comes amid her ongoing world tour, making this a highly anticipated and historic appearance.
Festival organizers are reportedly “thrilled” with the star-studded lineup they have curated for 2024. A source shared their excitement with the Mail on Sunday newspaper, stating, “It’s the dream lineup, a brilliant mix of different music and different atmospheres. Then, of course, you have Madonna on the final night, which will be epic.”
Coldplay, renowned for live performances, has previously headlined Glastonbury in 2002, 2005, 2011, and 2016. In contrast, Dua Lipa will make her first appearance as a headlining act. At the same time, Madonna’s performance will mark her debut at the iconic Glastonbury Festival, held on Worthy Farm, Somerset, from 26th June to 30th June.
This remarkable announcement comes from festival organizer Emily Eavis’s hint that Madonna might be topping the bill. During an appearance on the podcast ‘Sidetracked with Annie and Nick,’ Eavis mentioned, “I thought it was kind of taking shape, and then last week I just got a call… This person’s around next year.”
The call coincided with Emily Eavis attending Madonna’s show at The O2 in London, where she was “blown away” by the performance. While her excitement led to social media posts, Emily emphasized, “Everybody knows I’ve always wanted Madonna to play Glastonbury. It’s not a big news story.”
Additionally, Eavis confirmed that the festival has already secured a female star for the Sunday afternoon Legends slot, continuing their commitment to diverse and exciting musical lineups.
The Glastonbury 2024 festival promises a memorable experience, featuring a musical lineup that not only exemplifies the finest in music but also marks a substantial stride toward gender equality in headlining performances.
