Moonbin, a famous K-pop artist, has passed away at the age of 25, according to an announcement by his record company. Reports from South Korean media suggest that he was found unresponsive by his manager at his apartment in Seoul on Wednesday evening, as stated by the police. Moonbin was part of the K-pop group Astro.
Before joining the well-known k-pop boy band Astro at 18 in 2016, Moonbin had pursued a career as an actor and model.
From 2020 onwards, he had been part of a duo with another Astro member named Sanha. The two had been on a global tour, with their most recent show in Bangkok on April 8. Moonbin was due to perform in Macau on April 22, in Indonesia and Japan in May.
According to the initial police investigation, Moonbin may have committed suicide.
“He appears to have taken his own life, but an autopsy is being reviewed to determine the exact cause of death,” police said.
“Moonbin unexpectedly left our world and became a star in the sky,” Fantiago, Moonbin’s record label, said in a tribute message.
Moon Sua, Moonbin’s sister, is also a K-pop vocalist and a member of the girl group Billlie. In various public interviews, the siblings discussed their reliance on one another.
Moonbin joined Fantiago training program as a child
Moonbin had started as a child in Fantagio’s trainee program before becoming a member of Astro. Initially, the group had six members, but one member left in February 2023.
Following Moonbin’s death, his admirers have been mourning and praising his talent and kindness. As a well-rounded performer, he was recognized as Astro’s primary dancer.
Was he going through a difficult time?
According to Korean broadcaster SBS, Moonbin informed his fans after the show that he had been experiencing a challenging period.
Moonbin had been traveling around Asia with Sanha as part of a tour to promote their newest EP album, which launched in January.
“I want to confess one thing; I’m actually feeling really bad. There might have been many signs that people could notice since the concert started, so I’m also very sorry to you guys.
“I’m working out and trying to pick up things I’ve left little by little. I chose this job, so I need to be happy to make fans happy as well,” he said in a live broadcast over social media.
