“As It Was” by Harry Styles has been identified as the UK’s most-streamed single of 2022.
Styles’ song received 180.9 million streams last year. It lasted ten weeks straight at the top of the Official UK Top 40 chart, according to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), which studied data from the Official Charts Company.
The BPI’s Leon Neville hailed the remaining top 10 as a massive success for the UK music industry, saying: “At a time when streaming has created unprecedented competition coming from every corner of the globe, it is astonishing that in 2022 British artists were involved in all of the Top 10 calendar year’s biggest hits in the UK.
“This outstanding achievement is a testament to the rich musical talent that continues to emerge from across the UK’s nations and regions, fuelled by the passion, investment, and skills of UK record labels.”
Ed Sheeran claimed the second and third positions in the top 10 with his singles “Bad Habits” and “Peru,” and he also earned a slot at number five with “Shivers.”
Cat Burns’ song “Go” took the fourth spot, and Kate Bush’s famous song “Running Up That Hill,” which made its way back onto the charts in 2022, came in sixth.
‘Heat Waves’ by Glass Animals, ‘Where Are You Now’ by Lost Frequencies and Calum Scott, ‘Afraid To Feel’ by LF System, and ‘Seventeen Going Under’ by Sam Fender rounded up the remaining top 10.
