Cubase 10.5 is now out, and reviewers were planning to review the Cubase 10.5 Update New Features for YouTube. But we discovered a few flaws after just a few minutes of testing, and we thought to publish them here so that folks know before updating. The whole blog is included below (it’s lengthy but interesting).
What is Cubase 10.5?
During the last couple of versions, the vibe of Cubase has been changed and modernized, and 10.5 adds to this with changes to graphical performance and the capacity to colorize mixer channels.
This is great on a basic level; however, changes have been made somewhere else to the color-coding of channels, which just makes this a halfway improvement – and there remain issues with the readability of text and object scaling (some of which are new in this version). Other visual anomalies exist in windows not yet refreshed to the present darker scheme (e.g., Audio Connections – which would likewise profit from useful updates to its handling of External FX).
Performance and Verdict
One unimaginably helpful new feature in 10.5 is the capacity to import the full range of tracks from different ventures. Thirdly, the user was expecting that Bug 3 would function correctly. But it was delighted to see the Steinberg forum feature proposal included as one of the new features in Cubase 10.5! Thus, you may praise the concept, but it does have a significant fault and some stability concerns that need to be addressed.
The new Trade Tracks from Projects function has a significant issue. You may see the Import Tracks/Settings from the Projects issue. If you attempt to transfer the mixer settings from one project to another, the Technology on the track in your project will be wiped. Unlike when utilizing Save and Load Selected Mixer Channels, which requires physically accessing the new program and manually saving and reloading the channel settings.
Alert: This feature is no longer officially supported on older versions of Windows.
Cubase 10.5 is not officially supported on versions of Windows before 10. This is the first time in Cubase’s history that Windows 10 is needed. It needs Windows 10’s 64-bit version. It’s likely problematic, so upgrading to Windows 10 is strongly advised.
Users did not notice this warning when they purchased the upgrade, but they are aware of it from earlier conversations on the Cubase forums. After more investigation, we discovered that it is only mentioned in a tiny print under the Cubase 10.5 system requirements when purchasing the update. We believe that a clearer warning should be included since not everyone will read the tiny print.
Certain plugins do not function properly with 10.5.
Except for the admin mode fix, the plugins seemed to operate OK in 10.5. You may view the video from here to learn how to start Cubase 10.5 in administrator mode on Windows 10 automatically. We suggest doing this if you’re experiencing troubles with any plugins or just want to increase your overall stability.
On the Steinberg forums, several users complained that some of their plugins that functioned in version 10 did not work in Cubase 10.5
