Acclaimed singer-songwriter-pianists Norah Jones and John Legend have teamed up for the first time ever on the lush, feel-good single “Summertime Blue.” The breezy and soulful track blends their distinct musical sensibilities into an enchanting duet perfect for the season.
Produced by Norah Jones and Gregg Wattenberg, the collaboration came together through a shared creative circle. “I’ve been working on a side project with Gregg, and when I found out he also works with John I got so excited because I’ve always admired him,” says Jones. “Gregg suggested we do a song together and got the idea brewing, so I jumped at the chance. John welcomed us to his LA studio and we had so much fun recording and hanging.”
Legend echoes the sentiment: “Ah, what a perfect way to start the summer! I’m so honored to be part of this beautiful record with Norah. Her voice, soul, and musicianship, her graceful presence, are all undeniable. I’ve been a fan for so long. I’m so glad we could finally collaborate.”
“Summertime Blue” features both Jones and Legend on vocals, with Jones on piano, Wattenberg on guitar, Josh Lattanzi on bass, and Shawn Pelton on drums. A sweeping string arrangement by Dave Eggar and Chuck Palmer adds depth, performed by Eggar on cello alongside violinists Marianna Brickle and Katie Thomas.
