J Balvin Drops Surprise Album ‘Mixteip’ – A Bold Return and Evolution of Latin Music

Global music icon J Balvin returns with Mixteip, a surprise 10-track album that marks a pivotal moment in his artistic journey. Seamlessly blending classic reggaeton with bold genre crossovers, Mixteip is both a nod to Balvin’s roots and a fearless leap into the future. The album is now available on all digital platforms.

Mixteip

At the core of Mixteip is the explosive lead track “Zun Zun”, featuring longtime collaborators Justin Quiles and Lenny Tavarez. Powered by infectious reggaeton rhythms and dynamic verse exchanges, the track crescendos into a high-energy anthem that reimagines the golden era of reggaeton. The official music video premiered on MTV Live, MTVU, MTV Flow Latino, and lit up the Paramount Times Square billboards.

Shot with a nostalgic 1993-style camera, the “Zun Zun” video brings old-school vibes alive, transporting viewers to a throwback house-party scene full of oversized fashion, heavy chains, and raw energy. It’s a visual tribute to the unforgettable essence of ‘90s reggaeton.

Another standout is “Misterio”, a genre-defying journey that begins in reggaeton and smoothly transitions into salsa, featuring the legendary Gilberto Santa Rosa. His spoken-word outro—“Hermano, el amor no es siempre lo que parece…”—guides the listener into an emotional and rhythmic shift, marrying movement with meaning.

Balvin continues to explore sonic boundaries throughout the project:

  • “Bruz Wein” delivers moody trap-R&B layered with sultry restraint.
  • “Uuu” pairs Balvin with UK rap heavyweight Stormzy, merging Latin heat with gritty UK drill.
  • “PQBL” reveals Balvin’s vulnerable side, a romantic reggaeton gem that cleverly references his global hit “La Canción.”

Other tracks like “No Te Olvido”, “St Tropez”, and “¿Dónde Está Jose?” show Balvin’s confident command across moods and styles, culminating in a project that’s as cohesive as it is daring. Previously released fan favorites “KLK” featuring merengue star Omega and “Rio” round out the vibrant sonic journey.

Mixteip follows J Balvin’s show-stopping performance at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup™ Halftime Show, reaffirming his spot on the world’s biggest stages. This August, Balvin will continue his international run with headline performances at Baja Beach Fest in Mexico and Summer Sonic in Japan.

With Mixteip, J Balvin doesn’t just drop an album—he delivers a cultural moment. As he continues to break barriers and champion Latin music globally, Mixteip reasserts his place as a pioneer of sound, style, and vision.
