Pop star Shakira and Spanish footballer Gerard Pique have parted ways after being together for more than a decade. The celebrity couple released a joint statement about separation with a mutual understanding.
“We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding,” they wrote.
Shakira and Pique have two sons from their relationship, Milan, nine-year-old, and Sasha, seven years of age.
However, media reports claim otherwise. According to rumors, the Barcelona star footballer cheated on Shakira and that the two have been in an open relationship for a few years.
“Their agreement was ‘you do what you want, and I’ll do what I want,’ but to present themselves as a couple to the public,” journalist Jose Antonio Aviles said.
Meanwhile, Jose Antonio Aviles has revealed that Shakira’s move to separate has surprised Pique.
“Someone very, very close to Pique has assured me that there was no infidelity on his part. There is a great surprise at the breakup and Shakira’s statement,” the reporter stated.
Shakira and Pique started dating in 2010 on the set of the ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),’ official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Shakira, who hails from Colombia, has sold more than 60 million albums. Meanwhile, Pique has won the 2010 football World Cup and the 2012 UEFA European Championship with Spain and is also three-time Champions League winner with FC Barcelona.
