Lady Gaga has confirmed she will not perform at the Oscars this year as she did not get enough time to prepare for the show due to a busy schedule. However, Lady Gaga will attend the Academy Awards on Sunday as a nominee.

The singer will not be performing Oscars-nominated ‘Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick’ at the gala event, according to Oscars producer Glenn Weiss, who announced during a press conference. He explained that Gaga had no time to rehearse a musical routine as she was filming ‘Joker: Folie à Deux.’

This year’s remaining Best Original Song nominees will play during the event. Lift Me Up by Rihanna from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever; Applause by Sofia Carson and Diane Warren from Tell It Like a Woman; This Is a Life by David Byrne, Stephanie Hsu, and Son Lux from Everything Everywhere All At Once; and Naatu Naatu by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava from RRR will all be performed for the star-studded audience.

“We have great relationships with Lady Gaga and her camp (but) she’s in the middle of shooting a movie right now, and here we are honouring the movie industry and what it takes to make a movie,” Weiss said. “After a bunch of back and forth, it didn’t feel like she can get a performance to the calibre that we’re used to with her, that she’s used to and all that stuff.

“So she is not going to perform on the show, however, this is all, from our point of view, about someone making a movie and us completely understanding that that’s what is priority in this business, especially when we are honouring movies,” he added.
