Kelly Rowland feels that Chris Brown, jeered at the 2022 American Music Awards on Sunday, deserves “grace and forgiveness” for his past transgressions.

The audience members booed Chris Brown during the award ceremony after he won the Favorite Male R&B Artist. Kelly Rowland collected the AMAs award on Brown’s behalf and told the crowd to “chill out.”

“I want to thank Chris so much for making great music, and I want to thank him for being an incredible performer. I’ll take this award and bring it to you; I love you! Congratulations to all the nominees in this category,” Kelly said after collecting the award.

Brown remains a controversial figure in the music industry, 13 years after assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna before the 2009 Grammy Awards.

I believe that grace is very real, and we all need a dose of it. Before we point fingers at anybody, we should realize how grateful we are for every moment we get, for even the things we have. I just think it’s important to remember to be human, and we are humans,” Kelly Rowland said.

We all need to be forgiven, for anything we could be doing, anything that we’re thinking. We all come up short in some way. And grace is real, and we are humans, and everybody deserves grace, period,” the 41-year-old said.
