With four victories on Sunday night, Beyonce set a record and now has 32 Grammy Award wins. After winning the best R&B song for “Cuff It,” best dance/electronic recording, and classic R&B performance, her “Renaissance” award for best dance/electronic album cemented her place in history.
Kendrick Lamar has had a number of significant victories. Sam Smith and Kim Petras won Best Pop Duo Performance, besting songs like ABBA and My Universe by Coldplay-BTS. The first transgender woman to win a Grammy, Kim Petras, made history. Lizzo left with the Record of the Year award.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru-based Indian music composer Ricky Kej has won his third Grammy Award for ‘Divine Tides,’ a nine-song album that aims to deliver the message that “each life plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance that serves all equally.” Kej beat the likes of Christina Aguilera, The Chainsmokers, and others in the Best Immersive Audio Album category.
At the star-studded event at Crypto.com Arena, Lizzo, Steve Lacy, Luke Combs, Mary J. Blige, Harry Styles, and Bad will perform. Sam Smith, Bunny, and numerous others were present. Bad Bunny’s fantastic performance featuring dancers dressed in traditional garb and pyrotechnics, kicked off the evening. Many famous people jumped up and started dancing, including Taylor Swift. Harry Styles performed his song As It Was. Unholy by Sam Smith and Kim Petras was performed with intensity.
Viola Davis is the third Black woman in history to attain the coveted EGOT status. In addition, the Grammys included a musical programme to honour 50 years of hip hop, drawing an enthusiastic ovation from the audience.
