Chainsmokers

15. #SELFIE

This groovy party song, re-released on January 28, 2014, was initially released as a free download before being recognized by Dim Mak Records. The duo ended up with Columbia Records and became a top act, scoring huge hits in 2016 with “Don’t Let Me Down” and “Closer.”
What makes this video special is that it features original selfies from many celebrities like Steve Aoki, Snoop Dogg, and David Hasselhoff.

14. Drew Love ‒ Somebody

The collaborative single of Chainsmokers and Drew Love hit the digital shelves everywhere in April 2018. Drew Taggart and Drew Love explained the song as “a story of temptation through time…”. “Somebody” is an amalgamation of Pop, Trap, and EDM elements. It explores what it’s like to be living in a world where everyone else loses their true identities in pursuit of material objects and the struggle to not fall into this trap.

13. Kanye ft. SirenXX

The Duo paid tribute to Kanye West with this anthemic EDM track. The track is all about following your path and living your life only on your terms. “It’s about just owning it no matter what you’re doing,” the duo’s Alex Pall said to Buzzfeed. The song also features a shout-along chorus by the LA-based singer and songwriter duo Siren.

12. Roses ft. ROZES

“Roses” does not appear in the lyrics of this track, instead, it refers to the guest singer, Philadelphia songstress Rozes. It finds The Chainsmokers disclosing their soft side as Rozes sings, how her love for her beau is so special, and how she can feel it deep in her bones. This track ended up as Chainsmokers’ second Hot 100 Hit after “#Selfie”, reaching no. 16 in April 2014.

11. Paris

The song tells the story of a friend of Andrew’s, who is trying to escape from his day to day life because of his serious drug addiction.

We were staying in Paris
To get away from your parents
And I thought, Wow
If I could take this in a shot right no
w…

10. Sick Boy

Drew and Alex explained that the track is about the “struggle of self-identity in a crazy world”, and about “dealing with anxiety” while also feeling “trapped in this world of having to relate to everyone on social media.” This political song peaked at 65 on the Hot 100 and has 200 million Spotify streams.

9. Side Effects ft. Emily Warren

With “Side Effects,” The Chainsmoker’s make a return to their trademark, lighter and romantic style. It is another summer anthem released by them. The song features the pristine vocals featuring Emily Warren, over a beat that amalgamates Future Bass and Tropical House. It takes us through the story of detaching any pre-conceived inhibitions, and of living in the moment. The song was originally teased through a blank yellow post on their Instagram on July 19, 2018.

8. This Feeling ft. Kelsea Ballerini

“This Feeling” was the first song written by Taggart just after he came out of depression. He explained in one of his Instagram posts that it’s “a song about following your heart even when people don’t believe in you.”

“You’d think that an artist getting their first massive break and seeing a success in career they love would have no problems, but that’s the funny thing about depression. It doesn’t matter what you’ve accomplished, because it attacks how you feel about it.”

7. All We Know ft. Phoebe Ryan

It is the third original song to be released by The Chainsmokers in the year 2016. The song narrates the story of lovers falling apart. Chainsmokers explained the song in their own words on their twitter handle:

“It’s about the hardships of relationships but never giving up on your ride or die.”

Rory Kramer directed the video, featuring actor Casey Dendric, playing the role of a troubled young man. In the video, we see him embarking on a journey after receiving some bad news about a friend.

6. Who Do You Love (Lyric Video) ft. 5 Seconds of Summer

The Chainsmokers collaborated with ‘5 Seconds of Summer’ for this track which is all about a sour relationship. 5SOS’ Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin, and Calum Hood sing for their girlfriends who are putting up a lot of red flags with her actions.

You’ve been acting so conspicuous,
You flip it on me, say I think too much,
You’re moving different when we’re making love…

5. Beach House

The Chainsmokers, announced this song for the first time, via an Instagram post on November 14th, 2018. They even released a snippet of the song featuring Taggart. They officially publicized the song on the 15th through an Instagram post teasing the song as well as showcasing the cover art. The Chainsmokers credited Beach House as the inspiration for this song. The song begins with Drew Taggart singing,

Woke up on the west side, listening to Beach House, taking my time….

However, rather than incorporating Beach House’s dream-pop sound, this track is a prototypical Chainsmokers EDM cut.

“We tried to get back to our roots on this with that classic OG Chainsmoker feel… And we were listening to a lot of Beach House,” the duo wrote on Twitter.

4. Hope ft. Winona Oak

The song, “Hope”, reflects youthful infatuation and the consequences that follow, being in an intense relationship. The song is shot primarily keeping in mind, the perspective of the female in romance. Furthermore, the song takes us through the journey of a relationship that’s bound to fail, from the beginning. At the end of the song, we can see the duo singing a few choruses together.

3. Something Just Like This

For this anthemic tune, Chainsmokers joined hands with the British band Coldplay, and the result was magic.  Chainsmokers and Coldplay premiered this dance floor ready song during their live performance at the 2017 BRITS Awards, held on February 22, 2017.
Chainsmokers explained the meaning behind the song,

“This is about a relationship that doesn’t need to be superhumanly perfect, an ordinary love, a love everyone deserves like the boy on the cover art whose childhood memories are now boxed up.”

2. Don’t Let Me Down ft. Daya

This is the first single to be released by The Chainsmokers since their single Roses became a chart-topping success. It was co-written by Andrew Taggart of The Chainsmokers, Scott Harris, and Emily Warren. In a conversation with the Songwriter Universe, Harris explained how the collaboration came to fruition. He Stated,

“Emily and I write together all the time, I’ve written more songs with her than anybody else by a lot. We just get each other, and it’s a comfortable environment when we are together. She had done a song with The Chainsmokers and was basically like; we have to work with them. We had a session in Drew’s apartment, and he played us the beginning of the track that eventually became ‘Don’t Let Me Down.”

In the song we witness a teenage girl asking her untrustworthy lover not to let her down. She becomes a little unhinged, repeating, “I think I’m losin’ my mind now.” The song features pulsing, synth-driven drop, with its title “Don’t Let Me Down” repeated 26 times, espcially as it approaches a close.

1. Closer ft. Halsey

The Grammy-nominated song features a duet between Drew Taggart and American singer, Halsey. It was the first song to feature Taggart’s voice. For both Halsey and The Chainsmokers, Closer was the first song to have hit the Hot 100 #1. It also topped Billboard’s Hot Dance Electronic Songs and the first single to reach the summit of both tallies since Baauer’s “Harlem Shake” leading the charts in March and April 2013.

We hope you enjoyed the curated playlist of top 15 tracks of The Chainsmokers. If not, treat your ears and give these amazing tracks a listen.
