Mood Indigo, also known as MI or MoodI, is the annual cultural fest of IIT-BOMBAY. Held towards the end of December annually, it is regarded as Asia’s largest cultural college fest. Began in 1971, it witnesses a footfall of approximately 1.5 lakh every year. Mood Indigo 2018-A Montage of Dreams is happening from 27th to 30th December. Theme

Mood Indigo 2018-A Montage of Dreams will step onto its 48th edition of the fest. Montage literally means a series of shots edited into a sequence. The theme is a replica of the core committee’s thoughts of making the experience of Mood Indigo’18 an ultimate dream journey for its attendees. Therefore, ‘A Montage of Dreams’ being the paramount goal to achieve.

Social Cause

Every year, they attach a social cause to their already phenomenal festivities. They’ve had a social initiative to transform Maharashtra in 2016 by the CM and Rethink Pink, a drive against the taboo attached to breast cancer. Swab to Save, stem cell donation drive in 2017, and many more similar causes. This part of the fest saw inception in 2008 with a blood donation camp – Khoon Chala. This year they’ve joined hands to raise awareness about blindness and sensitivity towards the blind people – See Through my Eyes. They’ve set extensive eye donations camps across the nation to bring about a youthful revolution

Fashion – Trashion (Fashion with Trash), Vogue (Fashion Designing Competition) which is associated with big names like Wendell Rodricks, Neeta Lulla, Marc Robinson, and Kulraj Randhawa.

Design and Digital Arts – Director’s Cut (Short Film Making Competition), Merch Indigo (Merchandise designing competition), Cursor Strokes (Digital Painting Competition), Framed (Photo Story Competition)

Journalism – Radio-Active (Radio Jockey Competition), Spotlight (Video Journalism Competition), Reportage (Print Journalism Competition)

Speaking Arts –  Humor Us (Stand-Up Comedy Competition), Kavyanjali (Hindi Poem Recitation), Poetry Slam (English Slam Poetry), Just a Minute (English Extempore), Adhuri Daastaan (Hindi Storytelling)

Major Attractions

At Mood Indigo, a musician gets to perform alongside some of the best in the country! Music for the soul searchers and for the head-bangers they’ve got it all covered. From bongo to tabla to drums, from harps to violins to guitars, one finds every sort of music at Mood Indigo. The experience presented by ghazals and khayals, pop and rock, classical and western, and of course fusion at Mood Indigo is unprecedented!

Mantra – It is a Hindi Rock Band competition. The perfect platform to present your original compositions and make them go viral among peeps.

Conchord – In Acapella Competition, teams are not allowed to use any instruments and claim glory based on the strength of their voice. It became the launchpad for talents like singer Kamakshi Rai.

MI Idol – Hindi Solo Singing Competition

Singing the Indigos – English Solo Singing Competition

MI’nem – For all the aspiring rap-masters, this is the platform to showcase their skills. This is a solo event.

Surshringar – Solo Classical Music Competition

Taal Mel – Just like the greatest duos of all times Ravi Shankar-George Harrison and Zakir Hussain-Pat Marino, musical jodis get a chance to show their prowess on musical instruments in pairs.

Hysteria – Is semi-professional DJ Hunt where aspiring DJs set the stage ablaze with their original pieces.

The International Music Festival

Started in 2009, it has brought to Mood Indigo performers like the French troop Moriarty, Norwegian band Indian Core, Swedish performer Meja, Fire On Dawson from Germany, and Glass Duo from Poland. Mood Indigo 2011 saw bands like Caladh Nua from Ireland and Akasha from Malaysia perform. In addition, was a b-boy music performance by Gamblerz from South Korea.

Mood Indigo’18-A Montage of Dreams will witness performances of Tarq Bowen and Oxland.

Tarq’s signature tunes include a unique blend of Blues, Soul and hard-hitting guitar which is powerful yet gentle and dynamic. He is the first star of International Music Festival (IMF) of Mood Indigo’18-A Montage of Dreams. He will be accompanied by Phil Wildenhues on Drums and Marc-Inti on E-Bass. As a special guest appearance, Amit Mishra from India will join them on Tabla, making it a terrific night of fusion. Catch a glimpse of his magic below.

Hailing from South Africa, Oxland produces and plays live electronic drum rhythms. Incorporating big trap drops to hip-hop while juggling his signature sticks, his performance is not to be missed big time. He is the second-star performer of International Music Festival (IMF) of Mood Indigo’18-A Montage of Dreams. Catch a glimpse of his magic below.

Pronites

Pronites, the pseudonym for concerts, features both national and international artists from various fields of music. Mood Indigo Pronites have staged international bands like Katatonia in 2010, Porcupine Tree in 2009 and Ensiferumin 2008. Mood Indigo also played host to its first EDM concert with DJ Lange in 2013. This was followed by a concert of Sander van Doorn in 2014, Borgeous in Mood Indigo 2015, Vinai in 2016 and Bassjackers in 2017. Pronites has also hosted the legendary Asha Bhosle with another maestro R D Burman (in 1981 and 2010). Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, Shaan, Amit Trivedi, Sonu Nigam, etc. have all performed at MoodI. It has also hosted a number of Indian rock and fusion bands like Euphoria, Indian Ocean, Parikrama, Antaragni, etc.

With a humungous budget and the zeal for doing it better every year, the winter carnival of Mood Indigo’18-A Montage of Dreams is to look up to in the festive season of December. Bid adieu to the year a fantastic way!

EDM Nite

EDM Nite is when the energetic buzz resounds and people sway into the madness. For this year’s celebrations, they are bringing to India, 2018 DJ Mag 23rd rank holder Ummet Ozcan to drop his greatest beats as headliner act, on 27th December 2018 at Gymkhana Grounds, Mood Indigo, IIT Bombay, presented by RElan. A gush of craziness has already swept in the air as his fans gear up for Tomorrowland vibes in Mumbai itself.
