CROSSING PATHS with the History of SRCC CROSSROADS

The annual cultural fest of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), one of the most reputed commerce college in Asia, has continually created a buzz. SRCC Crossroads, the four-day-long extravaganza, covers a plethora of competitions, informal events, vibrant stalls, and several chill-out fun zones. But before one heads out to witness the magnanimity of the fest, one must check out the glorious history of Crossroads SRCC.

SRCC CROSSROADS

It hosts the most ethereal star nights capturing some high-octane live performances. Crossroads SRCC has witnessed stars like playback singer Shaan and Sukhwinder Singh, a Slovenian folk-rock musician Vlado Kreslin, Delhi-based band Mrigya’s violinist Sharat Chandra Srivastava, American vocalist and songwriter Jennifer Rene, Nikhil Chinapa with band Dualist Inquiry. These are just a few feathers of the cap; many Bollywood superstars come here to promote their films and show the best of their moves.

Furthermore, SRCC Crossroads is a melting pot for an array of events like dance, drama, music, fashion, literature, and art. Additionally, there are a lot of informal events such as Escapades, Food festival, Amusement rides, chill-out zones, etc.

The most-awaited and resplendent events of Crossroads SRCC are further fragmented into four nights:

Woodstock – A night as an undisputed alter for the heart-felt connoisseurs of Rock music.

Inferno – It is the night of fashion with scintillating energy and sizzling performances marking the evening of panache. They define Inferno as an amalgamation of ‘Illumination, Nostalgia, Fashion, Exhilaration, Rollick, Nocturnal, and Ostentatious’.

Random Collisions – Random collisions promises to be fest goer’s dream destination as smoke, light, and music come together to form the perfect stage for a night of unprecedented euphoria.

Encore – When the biggest performers meet the craziest crowd in the most coveted college, the culmination marks a levitation from the regular to the surreal. The concerts ensure a perfect end to all four nights of crossroads, giving the artists and the cult memories to cherish for a lifetime.

HISTORY OF SRCC CROSSROADS

Tracing its bequest back to 1976, Crossroads has seen a huge change of scale and magnitude. Since its inception, it has witnessed a footfall of over 80,000 as well as participation from 100+ colleges. Throughout its journey of 44 years, Crossroads has etched itself a niche amongst the most sought-after cultural fests of the country. Crossroads is the largest college fest in Delhi University in terms of footfall.

CROSSROADS SRCC 2018

Crossroads’18 kick-started with The Game of Notes, Acapella competition, pre-arranged by Catharsis, the western music society of SRCC. The seminar room garbed up with red fairy lights hosted a total of nine teams. The evening ended with DJ Teri Miko and Anish Sood’s exquisite performance.

The second day witnessed Bollywood singer Benny Dayal gracing the stage with his energetic performance and was an instant hit with the crowd. His rendition of Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” and a Tamil song was a testimony of his diversity as a singer. He left the audience smitten with his extraordinary performance.

Day three at Crossroads started with the Indian solo song competition organized by Aarohan, the Indian music society of SRCC. Astitva, the multi-genre band charmed the crowd at Inferno – The Fashion Nite. Exhibiting an incredible audience engagement, the band performed their top hits such as “Dil Chahta Hai” and “Humma.” They also sang one of their original pieces “Banjara Dil.” The audience was thrilled by the melodies.

On the final day, Nucleya, the trailblazer responsible for building and defining a lexicon bass music unique to India, stole the show. Some considered it as the biggest performance of the whole fest season. Hence Crossroads’18 ended on a high note.

CROSSROADS SRCC 2017

In 2017, Day 1 of Crossroads was one crazy party with not just one or two but three artists hitting the stage. Lost Stories, from the moment they entered, kept the crowd grooving with their music. DJ Chetas followed in next to add more fire to the evening! ‘Closer,’ ‘Yellow,’ ‘Kala Chasma’ etc. were among all the amazing songs that were played that evening. The crowd went tizzy. Thus day 1 ended with a bang.

Day 2 of SRCC Crossroads 2017 was cherishable. The DU crowd was fortuned to listen to Armaan Malik’s mesmerizing voice. The spectators swayed to his soulful tunes.

Day 3 of SRCC Crossroads 2017 was amazingly packed with fun and enthusiasm as SRCC welcomed Salman Yusuf Khan of Dance India Dance fame. Along with came Shahnaz Husain and Rave and Crave. The DJ duo got the audience grooving. In 2017, Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK put up a mind-blowing performance. With slight drizzles, the audience thoroughly loved his songs.

CROSSROADS SRCC 2016

Crossroads 2016 was a grand extravaganza which witnessed an amazing line-up of stars, events, and competitions. While the number of competitive events was far less than other college festivals this season, SRCC exceeded expectations when it came to star performances. Actor-director Farhan Akhtar performed his musical ensemble ‘Farhan Live’ on Day 1. Music-composer trio Shankar Ehsan Loy performed on Day 2. Day 3 summed up with the performance of the Indian band Euphoria. Bollywood singer Mohit Chauhan closed the last day with his enthralling performance.

CROSSROADS SRCC 2015

The first day of Crossroads commenced with a non-competitive street football event. At the same venue, The Traveller’s Society of SRCC organized Escapades, SRCC’s annual adventure sports festival. There was a wide variety of activities to choose from, the options being body zorbing, zorbing, trampoline volleyball, flying fox, archery, paintball, and tug of war that made up for the customary delay of the star night. The sports combined with a DJ playing dance music nearby, made for a lively morning. A street dance competition followed.

Amit Trivedi with Coke Studio vibes took the stage in front of a massive audience. Singing popular numbers like Zinda, Shaam, Gujaria, London Thumakda, and Shubharambh, he soulfully brought the first day of Crossroads to an end.

The second day came to a standstill when heavy rain inflicted mayhem. Hence, resulting in Atif Aslam’s performance being postponed. He performed at Shri Ram College of Commerce’s parking lot at noon, a day after it was originally scheduled. The Pakistani singer performed for about 20 minutes, singing his popular numbers like Doorie, Jeena, and Ye Meri Kahani before ending his performance with Gulabi Aankhei. Later in the evening, Romanian Pop act Akcent performed despite light showers. The group performed popular songs like That’s My Name and Stay With Me.

The annual cultural festival of SRCC, Crossroads, concluded on Tuesday with British singer Amelle Berrabah and DJ Mindrane taking the stage after dark. The duo performed for Random Collisions, Crossroads EDM night.

CROSSROADS SRCC 2014

The first night of SRCC Crossroads 2014 concluded after a melodic night with Shaan. On the second day, was it was time for spectators to get a taste of PLUR – Peace Love Unity Respect. VH1 Supersonic brought their exclusive brand of EDM music to Crossroads 2014. It sure took the stage by storm and left the crowd in a frenzy.

The lineup was one that made sure the students had their hands in the air as they danced to the music. With renowned artists like Audiogramme, Dualist Inquiry, and of course Nikhil Chinapa. It was truly a night SRCC and Delhi University will remember for a long time.

The third day witnessed Jennifer Rene, an international DJ, spinning EDM tracks. The night began with the song ‘Wake me in’ followed by numerous numbers from her discography. B’wood celebs, Ayushmann Khurrana and Sonam Kapoor, picked Crossroads 2014 as a platform to promote their upcoming movie Bewakoofiyan.

SRCC Crossroads’ ‘Last party before forty’ came to a befitting end with the internationally acclaimed singer Sukhwinder Singh and his troop performing for about two hours. He set the stage on fire with energetic songs like Chaiyya Chaiyya, Haule Haule, Beedi Jalaile, Dard–e–disco, Dhan Te Nan, Marjani Marjani, Saki Saki, Lagan Lagi, Chak De India, Ramta Jogi, and a many more.

CROSSROADS SRCC 2013

A white electronic card was distributed for free to all SRites and non-SRites, alike, by the Union. The crowd swayed, danced, and sang along with Salim and Sulaiman’s electrifying performance. The Star Night with Salim and Sulaiman was picture perfect on the first day.

‘Dog in the Bone,’ ‘Taboo,’ ‘Drop by Drop,’ etc. were organized as a part of informal events. The names might sound juvenile but the passion that the students exhibited is a rare sight. Other activities, that had the crowd straining their sinews, shouting and cheering took place in the back lawns. The Travellers’ Society of SRCC organized events like Trampoline Volleyball, Body Zorbing, Zorb Ball rolling, and others.

There were also, a number of food stalls to cater to the visitor’s frequent hunger pangs. From QD’s to Brown Sugar, to Kori’s, to the “Purani Dilli ke mashoor chhole kulche,” the campus had become quite a food court.

Finally, for Sunburn festival, DJs like NDS & BLUE, DJ Shaan, Lost Stories, and DJ Anish Sood came together as part of ‘Random Collisions’. It made the entire campus come alive to the transcendental beats of the DJs. The crowd danced like there was no tomorrow.

Listed as an extremely engaging and popular fest, SRCC Crossroads has managed to stay on top of the ladder in terms of everything from the star attractions to the management. Furthermore, SRCC’s fest folds massive budgets and welcomes sponsorship from the likes of big shots such as Pepsi, Samsung, DLF, Adidas, etc.

With palpable energy and anticipation running high, Crossroads 2019 therefore, will be a must-attend festival for college students of Delhi-NCR. With each passing year, it touches a new zenith of success.
