Major Lazer has been nominated for the 64th Annual Grammy Awards to be held on April 3 in Las Vegas. Major Lazer, who made its debut in 2009 with Guns Don’t Kill People…Lazers Do, has been nominated in the best dance/electronic album award category for the Reloaded version of their 2020 Music Is The Weapon LP.
In an interview with Billboard, Walshy Fire, the stage name of Leighton Paul Walsh, said the group was “excited,” but winning the award would mean a lot to Major Lazer. Walshy Fire is a Jamaican American DJ, MC, and record producer.
“This one would mean a lot considering the work we have put in. Being nominated is exciting, but winning would be an extra special accomplishment as a group,” Walshy Fire told the Billboard.
Walshy Fire further revealed how and when was the Music Is The Weapon made.
“Like almost all of our music, this album was made all over the world. I think it really speaks to the message of our music in general. We’re always trying to make the world smaller by making the party bigger,” Walshy said.
Walshy said the group had no regrets over missing out on nominations for “Lean On.” “How amazing is it that we are nominated now for Reloaded!”
Walshy added the group wanted to “create history” if given a to perform on the live show and “put on a show that would break the internet into pieces.”
Major Lazer has given many chartbuster hits, including the Pon De Floor, Watch Out For This (Bumaye), Jah No Partial, Light It Up, Cold Water, and Lean On.
Major Lazer is an electronic dance music Jamaican band, with record producer Diplo and DJs Walshy Fire and Ape Drums forming the group.
