Exclusive interview with Jmac (Rapper)

Now, without further ado, let’s go ahead and have a candid session getting to know the star upfront and personal.

Jmac

1) Tell us about your journey as an artist? How you started as a musician

Sol: Honestly, I really do not consider myself to be an artist, nor do I consider myself to be a musician. I feel like that’s disrespectful for me to say things along those lines. I say that because I grew up an athlete and played sports for a long time. With that being said, there are a lot of people that are athletic and can do a lot of athletic things. But if you cannot do it with in the structure of a team and perform then you’re not an athlete you’re just athletic. I feel like that about music as well. Like people put their entire life into music and me just doing it for a year I don’t think I could say that. Ironically,

I started rapping with the idea that I don’t have to be able to rap to be a rapper. I based it on the premise that rapping was just world. Since I went to college and wrote a lot of papers the writing process was easy for me. So, I went and wrote like 40 songs. Recorded them. Then dropped my first mixtape Im not a rapper these are short stories. Then I realized I sucked! So, I tried a new process but it still was off the idea that the words were more important than the music. I got way better then I dropped I’m not a rapper these are short stories 2.

That was cool, I was better but really after that I was like im a mediocre rapper and was actually about to stop. Then I got this idea to do a show where I pick every beat because I always thought I was an A&R, and I would freestyle on every beat. Which lead to the show punching in with Jmac.

2) Please tell us something about “Punching in with Jmac, Vol 1”. How you came up with the Idea for this mixtape?

Sol:The idea for punching in with Jmac actually came from one of my producer friends alongside a conversation with one of my cousins. They both said I need to make more content. I was like I can pick beats really well and I can kinda rap. Then punching in with jmac was born. Punching in with Jmac is an actual YouTube series. In this series you can watch we make every song on the mixtape from beginning to end! Punching in with Jmac is the Mixtape where I got too close to finding my sound. The mixtape includes a plethora of different types of beats and I found them all on YouTube.

3) If not a Rapper, what would have been your alternative career choice?

Sol: Crazy thing is I don’t really consider myself a rapper. I always say im not a rapper I’m a mogul. I’m like P.Diddy or Nick Cannon. Well aspiring to be. Because I do a bunch of other things like event planning, Podcasting, I have clothing, and I even do brand consultations.

4) For music lovers, anything else you want to share about your upcoming songs or performances in 2021?

Sol: Nope I don’t have anything.

5) What has been the greatest or the most memorable experience for you so far?

Sol: I would say when I got on TikTok one day and saw kids listening to my song. It was bitter sweet because they were listening to it but it bothered me that the song was explicit while the kids were singing along.

6) Who is your inspiration when making a new song?

Sol: My friends and our experiences. What’s crazy is that other people write my songs. When I say that I don’t mean I have ghost writers or people are in the studio with me. It just mean everybody I encounter always leaves something with me and it influences me when I say lines when I’m punching in.

7) When not making music, where can we find you?

Sol: When not making music you can find me in the streets being social. That’s my real job, I’m just a part time rapper.

8) Any plans of coming to India and performing for the music lovers here?

Sol: If y’all want me to come to India Im down. Just reach out and we will slide. We are ready!

9) The world is facing such a difficult time with the pandemic affecting so many people and businesses, including the music industry, do you have any message for everyone at this tough time?

Sol: In these Tough times ima give you the same advice I would give you if it was regular. Just do it. When I say that I mean it. A lot of people get hung up on ideas and never act on them because they are thinking too much. Sometimes just doing it is more than enough.

This is it. We are very excited about Jmac upcoming Mixtape. Let’s hope for the best. We are sure, the upcoming album will hit millions of hearts soon.
