Who is AP Dhillon?

Amritpal Singh Dhillon or AP Dhillon as he is known worldwide, is a Punjabi singer/rapper and record producer based in Canada. He is quite famous for his unique blend of R&B, hip-hop, pop and rap music. By fusing Punjabi and Western musical influences, he has curated a unique music catalogue that has established him as a top musical force in the Punjabi music industry and worldwide as well. There have been more than five of his singles to reach the top of the Official Charts Company UK Asian and Punjabi charts, while “Brown Munde” and “Majhail” have ranked at number one on those charts. As a part of the Run-Up Records label, AP Dhillon collaborates with Gurinder Gill, Shinda Kahlon, and Gminxr. AP Dhillon songs that are really popular include Insane, Brown Munde and Spaceship.

Early Life

AP Dhillon was born on 10 January 1993 in Gurdaspur, Punjab, India in a Sikh Family. He completed his schooling at Little Flower Convent Sr. Sec School in Dhariwal Gurdaspur, Punjab. Then he went on to study Civil Engineering from 2011 to 2013 and graduated from Punjab Technical University (which is now known as I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University) in Kapurthala, Punjab. After that, Dhillon shifted to British Columbia, Canada and got his post-graduation degree in Business Administration and Management from Camosun College from 2015 to 2017. After completing his post-graduation, Dhillon started working as a sales associate at Esso in downtown Victoria, BC. After staying there for about a year, he then moved on to consumer electronics company ‘Best Buy’ as a sales associate. Dhillon then turned his attention to music.

Music Career

AP Dhillon debuted on the music scene in 2019 with his single titled “Fake”. A melody composed of maqam chords infused with trap beats, the song marked the beginning of AP Dhillon’s journey in the international music industry. Next was Faraar, which was sung by Gurinder Gill and Shinda Kahlon and produced by him.

The single “Deadly”, produced by Gminxr, reached the top of the UK Asian chart compiled by the Official Charts Company in 2020. It also made the top 5 of the UK Punjabi chart. With Gurinder Gill, he next released “Droptop”, which also charted on both UK Asian and UK Punjabi charts. He released “Majhail”, a collaboration with Gurinder Gill and Manni Sandhu, in June 2020, which topped both Asian and Punjabi charts in the UK. In July 2020, he featured in “Excuses,” which reached number 3 on the UK Punjabi chart and topped the UK Asian chart. With Gurinder Gill, Gminxr, and Shinda Kahlon, AP Dhillon released “Brown Munde” in September 2020. Anmol Dalwani, Nav, Sidhu Moose Wala, Money Musik, Steel Banglez, and Money Musik appeared in its video. Brown Munde topped international charts, including the New Zealand Music Chart and UK Punjabi Chart, as well as Billboard charts. Globally, the song ranked #76, #1 on Spotify India, #5 on iTunes Radio Chart, and no.1 on Apple Music charts.

Not by Chance, AP Dhillon’s debut EP, was released in 2020. The EP’s seven songs ranked on the New Zealand chart and the UK chart, occupying the top five spots. The artist released another EP in November 2021 called “Hidden Gems” which also proved to be a great success. It was during this time that his song “Excuses” blew up on Instagram Reels in India, making him a household name. Most AP Dhillon songs are made in collaboration with fellow artists Gurinder Gill and Shinda Kahlon. AP Dhillon is currently ranked 49th on the global digital artists ranking and is also listed in Forbes’ India 30 Under 30 list for 2022.

AP Dhillon Concerts

The “Over The Top – The Takeover Tour” in 2021 saw AP Dhillon perform live in six major Indian cities for the first time. In February 2020, there was an AP Dhillon Concert in the UK. AP Dhillon’s America Tour has not been announced yet.
