Beyoncé and SZA dominate the 2023 BET Awards with multiple wins 

Superstars Beyoncé and SZA emerged as the top winners at the 2023 BET Awards on Sunday night at the prestigious Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The renowned artists each secured three awards, sharing the coveted Album of the Year title for their respective albums, Renaissance and SOS.

Beyoncé’s remarkable victories included the Viewer’s Choice Award and the BET Her accolade for her soul-stirring single, “Break My Soul.” Meanwhile, SZA, also known as Solána Imani Rowe, secured the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist title and the coveted Video of the Year trophy for “Kill Bill.” 

Due to their ongoing European tours, neither Beyoncé nor SZA could attend the star-studded ceremony at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. 

Among the other notable winners of the night was Drake, who claimed two awards: Best Group for his collaboration with 21 Savage and Best Collaboration for the song “Wait For U” by Future featuring Tems. 

Beyond the music categories, the blockbuster film “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” earned the title of Best Movie, while its leading lady, Angela Bassett, was crowned Best Actress. Damson Idris of “Snowfall” took home the Best Actor award, and Marsai Martin from “Black-ish” was honoured with the YoungStars Award. 

In a special moment, Busta Rhymes was presented with the highly esteemed lifetime achievement award, accompanied by heartfelt video tributes from industry icons such as Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson. 

The 2023 BET Awards proved to be a spectacular talent showcase, with Beyoncé and SZA leading the way with their outstanding achievements. The event celebrated black artists’ cultural contributions and excellence across various entertainment genres, reinforcing the significance of their artistic endeavours in the global landscape.

Video of the Year: Kill Bill, SZA 

Video Director of the Year: Teyana ‘Spike Tey’ Taylor 

Best New Artist: Coco Jones 

Dr Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award: Bless Me, Maverick City Music & Kirk Franklin 

Best International Act: Burna Boy (Nigeria) 

Best New International Act: Libianca (Cameroon)
