Music Production is a universally accepted form of art and has an ever-rising scope. There are numerous talented and creative Indian Music Artists be it Vocalists, Instrumentalists, DJs, etc. All of them working industriously to pave a way to the biggest of stages to perform and showcase their talent. EDM has become a favorite genre because of its infinite pumped-up vibe, consequently creating a bevy of Indian EDM Artists.
With the increasing talent-pool in the industry, it is impossible to put them all in a list. Yet, here’s a list of the most popular Indian EDM artists, in no specific order, in the industry today.

1. Zaeden

Known for his remixes of Coldplay’s Magic, Justin Bieber’s Love Yourself and Maroon 5’s Don’t Wanna Know and Animals, Gurugram’s Sahil Sharma is to watch out for. He began his career at the age of 14; released his first single titled “Land of Lords” in 2014. He became the youngest DJ to be featured on ‘Hardwell on Air’ when his remix of Coldplay’s Magic aired on Dutch DJ Hardwell’s radio show.

In 2015, he was signed under Spinnin’ Records and consequently released his single ‘Yesterday’. It was a collaboration with American DJ Borgeous. In 2016, he closed for DJ David Guetta’s Mumbai concert. That same year, he also performed at the Tomorrowland Festival in Belgium. He opened for Justin Bieber’s Purpose World Tour. Additionally, he has performed at Marenostrum Festival, TimeOut72, Enchanted Valley Carnival, Pacha Tour, Sunburn, Vh1 Supersonic, Mood Indigo, besides clubs like Privilege Ibiza. He’s also the first Indian electronic music producer to become the fashion brand ambassador for Adidas and Nnnow.com. Top-notch artists like Hardwell, DVLM, Avicii, Tiësto, and KSHMR, have vouched for Zaeden as one of the ‘most promising homegrown electronic music producers from Asia’. He also happens to be one of the youngest TEDx speakers.

2. Curtain Blue

Curtain Blue is a vocalist based out of Delhi. His original name is Abhishek Bhatia. This unconventional vocalist also lends his voice to the well-known Delhi rock band ‘The Circus‘. Curtain Blue’s compositions exhibit layered creativity with lush synths and glitch-ridden impressions amplifying the atmosphere. With two EPs by the name “Drones” featuring vocalist Kavya Trehan and another in collaboration with Abhinaina called “Let Go”, Curtain Blue has successfully performed at multiple music festivals and tours.

A common name during NH7 Weekender, he has also toured across Glasgow and London as a member of ‘Wild City Presents: Alternative India’. With Curtain Blue, his solo electronica project, launched in 2013, the artist is continuously exploring a different facet of the music spectrum: Indian Dance Music. The artist’s live performances are like a one-man jam session. Recently he has also collaborated with singer Monica Dogra for a music video named Spell. 3. Nucleya

Udyan Sagar aka Nucleya is the 41-year EDM producer who is arguably the most popular of Indian EDM Artists in Asia. Nucleya creates music adapting to sounds predominant in the society. Nucleya began in 2008 as a solo project with a signature blend of dance music structures, innovative rhythms, and melodies, inspired by traditional Indian music. In 2013 he released his first original EP ‘Koocha Monster’, immediately followed by ‘Koocha Monster Remix EP‘. It plastered his name as ‘the next big thing to happen to Indian electronic dance music’. His album, ‘Bass Rani’, took Indian electronic dance music to the next new level. It has played an important role in bridging the gap between indie and mainstream music. The Nucleya sound is now a genre in itself, i.e. Desi Bass.

Having played beside renowned artists such as Diplo and Skrillex, Nucleya is a favorite in the Indian Electronic Music industry. He has also received several accolades and nominations. 4. Anish Sood

Based out of Goa, Anish Sood is a Mechanical engineer, music producer, DJ, and songwriter. Sood first began DJ’ing at the age of 15 after Armin van Buuren’s ‘A State of Trance‘ podcast. He exposed himself to Indian Dance Music circuit in 2010 with regular nightclub gigs and festival appearances. Consequently, he got his first break at the Sunburn festival. He is a common name in major music festivals in India, namely, NN7 Weekender, Aamby Valley, Storm festival in Coorg and EVC. Additionally, he is signed to host a weekly podcast known as ‘Sunburn on Air’ along with Sunburn. He has shared stage alongside David Guetta, Kygo, Tiësto, Kshmr, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Steve Aoki, and Afrojack.

Sood launched of his own label “Class Action” in 2017 and the single ‘Don’t Stop‘. In February 2018, he released the second single from the album titled ‘Castles’ with Jonita Gandhi. His single ‘Starry Night’ was awarded for ‘Best Electronica/Dance Single’ at the ‘Independent Music Awards (IMA)’ in New York, thus he became the first Indian to win this award. 5. OX7GEN

Aditya Ashok, better known by his stage name OX7GEN, is a Mumbai-based DJ and drummer/producer. This self-taught electronica prodigy creates music that blends synth sounds and fast-paced drumbeats. He released ‘Any Minute Now‘ his debut EP, in 2012. His second EP, ‘An Ocean For Everyone‘ was released in 2013 with two songs. He has performed at Goa’s Sunburn festival, Naukuchital’s Escape Festival, NH7 Weekender, and BASS Camp Series.

His fondness for ‘Drum N Bass’ is evident from most of his releases. Being a multi-instrumentalist helps his tracks sound organic and fresh. He has performed with artists like KOAN Sound, Concord Dawn, Dub Phizix, London Elektricity, and Nymfo, among others. With an extensive 7 year experience, OX7GEN also plays the drums for electro acts such as ViceVersa and Shaa’ir + Func and alt-rock band ‘The Colour Compound‘. 6. Lost Stories

Mumbai-based DJs Prayag Mehta and Rishab Joshi, who together make the Lost Stories a success story from India, have been playing at Tomorrowland (Belgium) since some time now. Drawing influence from Chemical Brothers, KSHMR, Major Lazer, they know just right how to make the crowd crazy on tunes. They have likewise enchanted music lovers at Mysteryland in New York, Ibiza, Summerfestival, etc. besides the Sunburn, Enchanted Valley Carnival, Supersonic festivals in India. Formed in 2009, they are already at placed at 52nd rank by DJ Mag amidst the world’s top EDM artists.

They sprang to popularity when their single ‘False Promises’ was released on Tiësto’s ‘Black Hole Recordings’. Armin Van Buuren supported the track with many plays during his ASOT shows. Officially remixed for Afrojack’s latest ‘The Spark’ which is no. 2 on iTunes, India.

Not to mention…the incredible work of Nicholson

Nicholson

Based out of Mumbai, Nicholson constitutes of singer-songwriter/Keyboardist – Sohrab Nicholson and Producer/Drummer – Rohan Ramanna. They often collaborate with drummer Jahangir Jehangir and bassist Stuart DaCosta of Dirty Jays’ fame. Genres like Classical, Folk, Hip-Hop, Jazz, influence them and yet hold their niche and consequently their target audience. Their freshness of music has earned a loyal audience.

With two EPs under their belt, this two-piece band has performed on multiple stages like Magnetic Fields, VH1 Supersonic, Blue Frog and many more. ‘For What’ is a 2014 critically acclaimed debut tied by rich piano chords and Nicholson’s sober, slow-moving vocals. Followed that up with a debut live performance besides Sandunes at the NCPA’s experimental theatre. And since then, released two critically acclaimed music videos in collaborations with Sandunes and Fuzzy Logic (cover of Radiohead’s Give Up The Ghost). Cold Water is the name of the second EP.
